Highway 24/Crown C Circle intersection construction
Beginning Tuesday, May 4, 2021, Highway 24 in Manhattan will be reduced to one lane in either direction from South Port Drive to Scottie Lane. Traffic will be shifted to the right (outside) lanes and speed will be reduced to 45 mph in the work zone. This phase of the project will install storm sewer and left turn lanes in the median. Motorists should allow themselves extra time for their daily commute. This phase is expected to be completed in 6 weeks, weather permitting.
Also in this phase, the intersection of Crown C Circle and Highway 24 will reopen
Powers Lane closure
Starting Wednesday afternoon, 4-28-2021, Powers Lane will be closed to through traffic from Highway 24 to 3675 Powers Lane (stone house). A temporary access road has been constructed to access the trailer park at the north end of Powers Lane. Motorists can access the temporary road by using the west driveway of the Farmers State Bank property and continuing to the north west corner of the Farmers State Bank property. Powers Lane will remain closed until construction of Powers Lane between Highway 24 and the new frontage road is complete. The estimated timeline for this work is 6 weeks, weather permitting.
Phase two of the bridge replacement project on eastbound U.S. 24 over Blackjack Creek will begin April 22, weather permitting, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. The location is approximately six miles west of Wamego in Pottawatomie County.
Phase two consists of reconstruction of the bridge, which is expected to be completed at the end of this year.
Westbound U.S. 24 will continue to be reduced to the outside lane. Traffic for eastbound U.S. 24 will cross over onto the westbound left lane via a median crossover, there will be oncoming traffic. Traffic will then be crossed back over to the eastbound lanes via another median crossover after the bridge. The same road closures, turning restrictions, sideroad closures and reduced speed limit will continue during this phase of the project.
Work will occur during the daylight hours, Monday to Friday and Saturdays, as necessary. Phase three will begin in early 2022 to remove the median crossovers and temporary guardrail. Project completion is expected in early 2022.
Victory Road about 1 1/4 miles south of Highway 16 will be temporarily closed beginning 3-23-2021 for structure maintenance for an unknown time period.
Dyer Road is open.
