2023 Family Resource Night and Community Baby Shower

The April 2023 Family Resource Night & Community Baby shower is over, however, the Pottawatomie County Health Department (PCHD) wants families to know that if you need resources, please contact them at 785-457-3719 or email Kristen atimage of kshelhamer's email address.

This event is sponsored by PCHD and USD 320 to show the community that we want to put our arms around each other and be there for everyone.  The power of a community is discovered by what it cares about and as you can see from this event, everyone cares about young families thriving in Pottawatomie County.

Vendors and PCHD provided resources and information to new and expectant parents. Vendors included: NEKCAP-Early Head Start; the Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Department; Pawnee Mental Health; 3 Rivers Inc.; Prairie Wind Family Care; USD 320 Infant and Toddler Services; Parents as Teachers; K-State Research and Extension; Pottawatomie County Safe Kids Coalition; Child Care Aware; Regional Child Care Licensing; Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program; Oral Health Kansas; Pottawatomie County Public Transportation; Kansas Department of Children’s and Families (DCF); KanCare; Wamego Health Center; Community Health Care Systems, Kansas; Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition; and the Pottawatomie County Health Department.

In addition to providing informational brochures, many of the vendors offered items such as lotions/creams, mom kits, toothbrushes and toothpaste, floss, stickers, medication lock boxes, pens, pencils, stress balls, cups, cozies, bag clips, tote bags, hand sanitizer, first aid kits, candy and much more. Demonstrations for Safe Sleep were done throughout the event.

Two grand prizes were given away-one for an infant under 12 months of age and one for a child over 12 months of age. Prairie Wind Family Care and Community Health Care Systems also had drawings for baskets full of baby items.

Every prenatal, postnatal and family was able to pick a gift from the PCHD gift table that included pack-n-play, diapers, wipes, sleepsacs, tags, breastfeeding accessories, books, educational toys, bibs, grooming kits, safety kits, lock boxes and diaper bags.

The USD 320 Kitchen provided a box meal, the Wamego High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America group (FCCLA) provided childcare and staff from Central and West Elementary schools and PCHD organized the event.

Family Resource & Community Baby Showers are held twice a year. Look for information on the fall event in September here!
