Planning & Zoning Office


The Pottawatomie County Planning and Zoning Office is responsible for administering the County’s Unified Development Regulations (UDR) which cover subdivision and zoning regulations.

The office is additionally responsible for land use planning in the County and implementing the County’s Comprehensive Plan and any additional adopted County Plans.

Other responsibilities of the office include building and sign permits, floodplain management, addressing, and subdivision plat reviews.

News and Upcoming Meetings

The Pottawatomie County Planning Commission is holding a special work session with the Board of County Commissioners on January 20 to discuss solar farm regulations in Pottawatomie County. More information can be found on the Renewable Energy page.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Planning Commission meetings are being conducted via the teleconferencing app, Zoom. The agenda can be viewed by clicking most recent agenda. Information about how to connect via Zoom can be found on the Planning Commission home page.

Ongoing Projects

Renewable Energy Regulations

A joint meeting is scheduled for August 5, 2021 at 7.00pm at the Sunflower Room. This meeting is work session with the Planning Commission and the Board of County Commissioners. It is not a public hearing.

The County is developing regulations for commercial wind and solar farms. Regulations regarding solar farms will come first followed by regulations regarding wind farms. 

The Board of County Commissioners recently adopted a six month moratorium on commercial solar projects to allow Staff and Planning Commission time to develop these regulations.

Green Valley Pedestrian Plan

The County is currently working the Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization to develop a Pedestrian and Safe Routes to School Plan for the Green Valley Area. You can check out the Plan's website to view survey results and stay up to date on the Plan.

Unified Development Regulations

The County is update its Unified Development Regulations in response to the new Comprehensive Plan. You can view the draft chapters by visiting the Draft Regulations webpage.
