Every 3 months the USA throws away enough aluminum to rebuild its commercial airplane fleet. Every year Americans generate about 1,200 lbs. of solid waste per person. Americans use approximately a billion gallons of motor oil every year & 350 million gallons of it end up in the environment. |

| Avoid buying toxic substances. Use safer alternatives
SCOURING POWDER - chlorine-free cleanser or baking soda. OVEN CLEANER - sprinkle salt on spills when they are warm & scrub. GLASS CLEANER - mix equal amounts of vinegar & water. SPOT REMOVER - mix 1/4 cup borax in 2 cups water. ANT CONTROL - sprinkle powdered red chili pepper or paprika where they enter. MOTHBALLS - try cedar chips or lavender. ROACH CONTROL - use traps with adhesive strips. |
