Pottawatomie County Health Department was established in
1973 by the County Commissioners. The commissioners are the
local board of health for the department. Leslie Campbell, RN
has been the County Health Director and Health Officer for 16
years and has worked at the county for 25 years. The department
has eight full-time and five part-time employees.

The department's mission was adopted in 2013:
"It is our mission to engage, encourage, and build community
partnerships for the purpose of identifying and promoting a healthy
living environment for the stakeholders of Pottawatomie County."

Strives to meet the 10 Essential Services for Public Health and:
Monitors health status to identify and solve community health problems.
Diagnoses and investigates health problems and health hazards in the community.
Informs, educates and empower people about health issues.
Mobilizes community partnerships and action to identify and solve health problems.
Develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts.
Enforces laws and regulations that protect health and ensure safety.
Links people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable.
Assures competent public and personal health care workforce.
Evaluates effectiveness, accessibility, and quality of personal and population-based health services.
Researches for new insights and innovative solutions to health problems.
