The new Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM's) for Pottawatomie County ar effective as of Dec 4, 2012.

Floodway
- Floodway is the channel of a stream plus any adjacent floodplain areas that must be kept free of encroachment so that the 1% annual chance flood can be carried without substantial increases in flood heights.

100 Year Flood, Sheet Flow
(Zone AO) - Flood depths of 1 to 3' (usually sheet flow on sloping terrain); average depths determined. For areas of alluvial fan flooding, velocities also determined.

100 Year Flood, No Elevation
(Zone A) - The 1% annual chance flood, aka base flood is the flood that has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. The Special Flood Hazard Area is the area subject to flooding by the 1% annual chance flood. No Base Flood Elevations determined (water-surface elevation of the 1% annual chance flood.

100 Year Flood (Zone AE) - The 1% annual chance flood, aka base flood is the flood that has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any given year. The Special Flood Hazard Area is the area subject to flooding by the 1% annual chance flood. Base Flood Elevations determined (water-surface elevation of the 1% annual chance flood).

500 Year Flood (Zone X) - Areas of 2% annual chance of flood; areas of 1% annual chance of flood with average depths of less than 1' or with drainage areas less than 1 square mile; and areas protected by levees from 1% change of flood.
 
General Information
Printing - This function uses pop-ups. To allow pop-ups - Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Pop Up Blocker -> Allow pop ups from this site.

The 2008 Aerial of Pottawatomie County only covers the southernmost 11 miles of the county.
 
Map Contents - General Information
You control what you view on the map. Turn off/on the check box next to the data under Map Contents to control viewing of that layer.

Too many layers visible at one time will make your map difficult to read and to gather information from it.
To see the symbology for a layer; click the plus sign next to the layer name.

If data layers are "grayed out" then you will be able to turn those on once you zoom in closer.
 
Search Owners
To search for on owner; click on the "Search Owners" tool (tools are located above the map).
Type in owners last name and click find or type in last name, a space, and first name or initial, then click find.
This search is not case sensitive.
The results of your search will appear in the Results Window (upper left, above Map Contents).
Click the plus sign to see additional information associated with the selections.
Right click on results and select Zoom To to go directly to your selection on the map.

Example: Smith [press the Find Button] - this will return all the Smiths in Pottawatomie County.
Example: Smith Joe [press the Find Button] - the will return all the Joe Smiths in Pottawatomie County.
Example: Smith J [press the Find Button] - this will return all the Smiths that have a first name that begins with the letter J.

Note regarding ownership - County ownership is for taxing purposes and based on records available to the GIS office, it should not be construed to be a definitive ownership.
 
Search Address
This is a 2 part search; The address number and the road name.
Enter the exact address number, select a road name from the list.
If you know that road name but not the address number please use the Road Search instead.

Search Roads, Sec-Twp-Rng
Select item name from the drop-down list. Click the Find Button.
Right click on results and select Zoom To.
 
Map Tools (upper right)
Zoom In - Using your mouse, click on map to zoom in or draw/drag a box on the map with your mouse to zoom in to a specific area.

Zoom Out - Using your mouse, click on map to zoom out or draw/drag a box on the map with your mouse to control your zoom out area.

Pan -Using your mouse; click on map and drag any direction.

Full Extent - Clicking this button will take you back to a countywide view.

Back Extent - Click on this tool to see previous view of map

Forward Extent - Click on this tool to return to view before back extent.Magnifier - Click to turn on/off. Use it Magnify the view of a small area. You choose the magnification.

Map Identify - This tool provides information about the top layer of the map (see Map Contents for layer order).
Example:If you have Commission Districts visible on top of Parcel Boundary this tool will give you Commissioner name. However, if you have the layers on top of parcels turned off you will get parcel information.

Measure - The measure tool has 3 options; Point - coordinates, Line - distance, Polygon - area. Please note that these calculations do not appear on the printed map.

Point Coordinates - Clicking on the map will show you the X,Y Coordinates.

Line - Distance - This tool is a distance measure tool. Click once on the map to begin and to traverse your route and double click to end. Use the list under length to change how you want length calculated (ie feet, miles, etc).

Polygon Area - This tools measures area. Click once on the map to begin and to layout the area boundary and double click to end. Use the lists to change how you want your area calculated (ie acres, sq feet, etc).

Overview Map - This tool turns on the overview map of the county. It is a visual locate of your position relative to the county as a whole. It is not interactive. Click on tool to turn on/off.
 
To Save Results of Measure Tool
For Win 7 or Vista users - All Programs, Accessories, Snipping Tool, draw box around the area you wish to copy. You can then save it as an image or copy it to another program to print.
